End of Life Care
When a patient has a terminal diagnosis and chooses to focus on quality of life versus aggressive treatment, private nursing can be a great resource often in combination with hospice services and family support.
Of primary importance is being able to assess a patient’s condition on an ongoing basis and deliver medication as needed to ensure pain control and reduced anxiety. It can be a frightening and overwhelming experience for the family when a loved one is terminally ill. Having a nurse in the home to explain symptoms and the reasons for various treatments – or refraining from treatments – is especially comforting and contributes to a calmer environment. It allows the family to be family rather than caregiver, preserving dignity to the patient.
